An introduction to somatic movement.
A series of three workshops on Sundays in January 2026 at the Loft in Folkestone.
Have you been hearing the word somatic everywhere? Somatic dance, somatic therapy, somatic yoga… It’s everywhere atm and while it’s a bit frustrating when words become trends I fully advocate for this trend. Somatic or embodied movement is a deeply nourishing, therapeutic, restful and joyful practice.
I am excited to be offering a series of three workshops on Sundays in January at The Loft in Folkestone to introduce you to the practice of remembering that you are a being who was created from the belly of stars and that you belong here on this earth. You are so much more than just a nervous system that needs regulating.
Through the power of embodied anatomy, storytelling, poetry and music you will be guided back to your body and expression.
The themes & dates for this one off series of somatic workshops are…
Lungs & The Respiratory System: Sunday 11th January 2-4pm
Heart & The Circulation System: Sunday 18th January 2-4pm
Fascia, the fluid body: Sunday 25th January 2-4pm
Cost is £70 for all three workshops or £25 if you want to just do one of the workshops.
(I have five spaces for all three workshops at a solidarity rate of £35)
You can expect…
Some great mind snacks & storytelling about our bodies as we explore different parts of our anatomy and movement patterns.
You will also receive PDF’s after the workshops so you can stay in awe of your body.A supportive and inclusive space for your expression.
A beautiful & carefully curated soundscape.
Space to share and be in community… being embodied is being in relationship.
A reading list for you to continue your exploration.
Your space holder…
Ami Robertson (they/them): Trauma informed somatic therapist and embodied movement practitioner. Ami has a deep curiosity for life, the mystery and our human experience. Most of their work is walking alongside people as they explore their trauma and do the great work of meeting themselves. They work with many modalities and embodied movement and dance is one of their favourite ways to gather people to explore to the arts of remembering & reclaiming. Ami’s work is in line with the cyclical nature of life, deepening into the relentless truth of death & rebirth.

Everyone is welcome!
You don’t need to have any experience with somatics, yoga or movement to attend these classes.
There is also nothing to get right, you might move a lot or you might just rest in stillness… all expression is welcome and you have agency at all times.
These practices can sometimes bring up our more uncomfortable expressions like grief & rage, please know this is welcome and will be supported.
But also know that you don’t have to go there and you will be given resources to support this.
All genders are welcome and no fitness is required, you can spend the entire practice lying down if that’s what you need.
The Loft is on the third floor with no lift access, apologies to anyone this excludes, Folkestone is so limited for venues suitable for these practices.
