Information overload, the wolf in sheep's clothing.

business coach london

Well hello there! I haven't blogged in a couple of weeks largely due to the fact that I have been out photographing amazing women which has left me feeling very happy indeed.

This week is set to be just as brilliant as I head off to Southampton shortly to have a planning meeting with the fabulous Emily & Alan of Baylily Bell Tents as they signed up for the annual brand photography package so I have 12 months of working with them to look forward to!

Then tomorrow I am with Mikyla for the day in London for her brand shoot which I can't wait for as we have some brilliant plans!

So today I want to talk to you about something we are all guilty of. We disguise as productivity or learning. It makes us feel inspired true but it also is a very real form of procrastination.

It comes in the form of buying business books with catchy titles from amazon prime, it's being a member of a million Facebook business groups that we endlessly scroll through, it's listening to an endless stream of podcasts...

Wait, I hear you say, isn't learning a good thing?

Yes, absolutely it is.

But I ask you this: Are you doing more learning than ACTION??

Gaining quality knowledge is obviously an important part of being an entrepreneur, however, it's only good learning if you take action on the things that you learn.

I do it myself and I see it everywhere. People filling their heads with a ton of information sometimes conflicting information and calling it progress. Or they go the other way and feel totally overwhelmed by it all and stop taking action themselves entirely.

Reading books, listening to podcasts, scrolling through social media endlessly is NOT positive action.

The action that will get you forward in your business, make you more money and build your audience is that quiet focused work you do away from the noise.

You need to build a sales funnel not just learn about them.

You need to create a strategy not just learn about how to do it.

You need to actually do a launch not just listen to the most popular podcast about it.

Information overload really is a wolf in sheep's clothing because it can make you feel like you are DOING something when really you are NOT.

I am not saying don't learn anything new ever again.

I am saying to learn productively and intentionally.

If you read a book that really inspires you don't just hop to the next book. Take the knowledge from that first book and put into action. If it doesn't work then it doesn't work but also see what you can learn from that and make the necessary changes and put them into action.

Another way of managing information overload is to set aside time for learning. Block an hour a day for reading, only listen to podcasts when you are driving or exercising. Keep it separate from your actual 'work' because it will only be a distraction.

You could also create a strategy for your learning. Decide in advance what books you are going to read each month, maybe follow only one podcast for 3 months and then actually block out time for implementing the action you learn about.

However, you decide to manage your knowledge intake just make sure it's actually being put into action otherwise you are not going to move forward in your business/life and that is what we all want after all.

So how many of you are guilty of this? I am definitely at times :) let me know in the comments!

Have a great day.
Ami xx
